CARLSSON WINS IN PERTH

Mat Carlsson Wins Anzpt Perth

Mat Carlsson

Mat Carlsson was crowned Australia New Zealand Poker Tour Perth main event champion this weekend, defeating Anthony Marenko heads-up over an eight hour final table in Western Australia. Carlsson becomes the third ANZPT Perth winner, following Tony Hachem and Grant Levy, earning the title, trophy and a first prize of AUD$78,275.

Carlsson demonstrated a blend of aggression and skill, dominating early with pre-flop betting and extracting maximum value when good cards came along. He knocked two players out of the final, one with aces and another with kings, then had a second pair of kings cracked. But few doubted Carlsson had displayed a fearsome will to win throughout the event.

Marenko finished as runner-up with Anthony Aston in third place, making it back to back third place finishers for Aston on the ANZPT, and taking him to top spot in the Player of the Year contest.

The tour now heads to Queenstown in New Zealand for the Snowfest leg of the fourth season in July. Details of that, and of the entire main event in Perth, can be found on the ANZPT website.
